Featuring a 24MP sensor, and capable of shooting 6K video (6016 x 3200) at up to 30 fps, the new DJI Zenmuse X7 camera with 3-axis gimbal offers a significant upgrade over its predecessor, X5S model, and makes for an even more ideal complement to the DJI Inspire 2 Quadcopter.

Recording options include 6K video at 17:9 and 16:9 aspect ratios, DCI 4K at 30 fps, and UHD 4K at 60 fps in the Cinema-DNG format; and DCI and UHD 4K in ProRes and H.265/H.264. 24MP still images can be captured individually or in continuous bursts of up to 20 fps.

Precision has also been improved, with the gimbal’s angular vibration range now at a low +/-0.005°. The controllable pan range is +/-300°, tilt range +40 to -125°, and roll range +/-20°, with the max pan speed at 360°/s, and tilt and roll speeds at 180°/s. Additionally, the gimbal mount is designed to be detachable for more convenient use with the copter.

Zoom, the company behind so many innovative products in acoustic guitar modeling, field recording, and more, has announced its newest sample-based live performance instrument, the ARQ AR-48. With 460 built-in samples exploring a variety of genres, the AR-48 is many things: a sequencer, a drum machine, a synthesizer, a looper, a MIDI controller, and more.

Like the ARQ AR-96 that preceded it, the AR-48 boasts two impactful components: a Base Station and the detachable Ring Controller. The Base Station houses all the sound generators, including the 460 customizable instrument sounds and a synthesizer with three sub-oscillators. Your I/O is also based out of the base, with a 3.5mm stereo input, the 3.5mm headphone output, the two 1/4″ stereo outputs, the SD card slot (for importing pre-recorded audio), and the USB port (for computer connections).

Also on the base station is a 32-step sequencer for creating and looping rhythmic patterns on the fly. The sequencer can save up to 384 patterns and 99 songs, so you’ll have plenty of space to store your creations. Here you’ll also find your transport (Record/Play buttons), as well as controls for capturing audio, recording motion sequences, and saving your work.

Continuing to strengthen its lineup of enticing manual focus primes for full-frame and APS-C Sony E mirrorless shooters, Voigtlander has just announced the Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical lens. Keeping with Voigtländer’s preference for this unique, not-too-wide, not-too-long focal length, this new optic is billed as the first 40mm lens with an impressively bright f/1.2 maximum aperture for extensive control over depth of field, as well as enhanced low-light performance. It is also characterized by its use of a pair of aspherical elements to control spherical aberrations and distortion for a high degree of sharpness and clarity.

Like other recent Voigtländer releases for the E-mount, this lens has a manual aperture ring that can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture transitions to suit videographers, and its manual focus design permits photographing subjects as close as 1.2′ away. Additionally, electronic contacts are integrated at the lens mount for transferring Exif data between the camera and lens, as well as affording the use of Sony camera’s focus magnification, image stabilization, and lens-correction technologies.

Wouldn’t it be great to have Amazon’s Alexa built into a Sonos speaker? Well, they’ve done it—Sonos has just unveiled the new Sonos One. Featuring the same footprint as its popular PLAY:1 speaker, the digital-assistant-enabled Sonos One is available in black or white and uses an integrated six-microphone array with far-field voice technology—which is designed to recognize your voice despite music playback—to control all of Alexa’s functionality. Now, you can have a speaker on your Sonos network and control it with just your voice, or do anything else that Alexa can do.

On the audio side of things, the Sonos One features one tweeter and one mid-woofer, each powered by a Class-D amplifier, and fine-tunes itself for the room it’s playing in with integrated Trueplay technology. Also like the PLAY:1, the Sonos One sports a ¼”-20 thread for ceiling, wall, or stand mount, and measures only approximately 4.7 x 6.4 x 4.7″, allowing it to fit on bookshelves, counters, or other tight areas. Humidity resistance will let you use your Sonos One in steamy areas like the bathroom and, with Alexa, you won’t need to fumble for the skip or pause buttons with a soapy hand.

To hear the Sonos One for yourself, or for help deciding which virtual assistant speaker is right for you, come in to the B&H SuperStore, where we have a number of models on display. If you can’t visit, our friendly, knowledgeable sales staff can help you choose the right virtual assistant speaker over the phone at 800-606-6969, or via chat or email.

To what features of the Sonos One are you most looking forward? Are you looking to add Alexa functionality to your existing Sonos system, or is this your first venture into the Sonos ecosystem and/or world of digital assistants? Join the conversation in the Comments section, below!

Our lives are filled with moments we want to preserve—from backyard bacchanals and celebratory soirees to baby showers, bar mitzvahs, and everything in between. But regardless of occasion, the dilemma we often face is whether to enjoy the moment first-hand or grab our camera so we can capture it forever. Today, we no longer have to make that choice.

Introducing Google Clips, an AI-backed, pocket-sized shooter that automatically captures the world around you so that you can live in the moment and re-live it later.

This double-entendre device clips onto a product or person and, once activated, proceeds to capture short motion clips of family and friends. It’s more than just a body camera, however—much more. Thanks to built-in machine learning, the Clips can identify who, what, and when to shoot, enabling it to recognize and record the best moments from any event all on its own.

Supporting the Clips’ Skynet-like brain is a spy-worthy sensor that features a 130-degree field of view, f/2.4 aperture, and 1.55µm pixel size. Autofocus and a nighttime mode are built in, allowing Clips to get the perfect shot even in low-light conditions.

Despite its name, the Clips’ footage isn’t strictly relegated to motion photos. Using the free companion app, you can also extract hi-res images from any footage the Clips records, so not only do you get motion photos, but also beautiful stills of all your favorite moments.

In case life takes you outside or into the elements, the Clips is built tough and certified IPX4 water resistant, so even if the event gets rain-delayed, your footage won’t. Its battery lasts three hours on a full charge, which should be long enough to outlast even the windiest toast or best-man speech.

Google’s new generation of virtual assistants have arrived, with two models designed to fit into nearly any home setting. The Google Home Mini sports all the hands-free features you already love about its big brother, but in a smaller form factor. Available in Chalk or Charcoal color options, the Google Home Mini is a mere 3.86″ wide and 1.65″ tall. While small, it closely resembles the original Google Home, minus the touch-surface controls. With far-field voice recognition technology, you can talk to Google from across the room, adjust your schedule, and even control your multimedia and compatible smart home devices with the Google Assistant.

A 1.86-inch-high excursion driver provides audio for media playback, with support for popular file formats like MP3, WAV, FLAC, and more,  with Chromecast and Chromecast Audio built in. The system can recognize up to six different voices and provides personalized responses for each. The Google Home Mini supports Android 4.2 and higher and iOS 9.1 and higher, and offers dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi connectivity.

On the other end of the Google Home spectrum is the Google Home Max. Also available in chalk and charcoal color options, the Max is more music-oriented, with dual 4.5” woofers for improved bass over its little brothers, and two 0.7” tweeters to round out the sound. With its larger drivers come a larger footprint, 13.2 x 7.4 x 6” overall, and it can stand on either end to help save space. Powered by the Google Assistant, the Google Home Max will provide all the same functionality as the rest of its family.

Ohanesian is an award-winning photojournalist, based in Kenya, who covers humanitarian crisis and conflict in South Sudan and Somalia. On this assignment, she had hiked deep into the Okapi Wildlife Reserve with rangers returning to a gold mine that had been cleared of illegal mining, only to be attacked by militia members looking to reclaim their site.
