Video games are important. They are a storytelling medium, a place for self-expression, a sandbox for the human imagination, and an extension of an ages old tradition of gaming. We play out some of the most essential aspects of our culture in games, and we learn more about ourselves and the world around us in the process. From the powerful cinematic experiences of mainstream gaming, to the hyper-personal environments of indie games, we are in the midst of an explosion of gaming activity that, as some predict, will continue to define the way we live and interact with information, and each other, far into the future.

    Hell, I expected to …
Hell, I expected to come in fighting and losing anyway. But the opposite has happened, and I’ve seen support from the most unexpected places.

I seriously did not expect people to like or understand my designs, no matter how sure of myself I was… but I’m not above admitting I’m wrong. In fact, I’m glad I was wrong.

Aaaaand I think it’s a bit odd that you guys are replying to a comment over half a year old. I’m gonna comment just because people keep replying to this thing.

I’ve made peace with most of the indie scene since then and have even gained some (a surprising amount to me) measure of acceptance within it. My previous comments were from the position of a defensive outsider who was only exposed to the worst of the scene. I know you replied looking for a fight, but I gotta disappoint you here…

    I would like to …
I would like to kindly disagree fine gentleman. While some indie games may have graphics of 90’s games these games have creative and new game play mechanics. The whole point of an indie game is that its pure imagination of the creator(s), while in many main stream games a lot of the content that’s in the game is dictated by whats popular in the market. I hope we can come to a common agreement or at the very least”Agree to disagree” -a concerned indie game lover.

    go away. minecraft …
go away. minecraft is not the only game in this world. that wasn’t even a legible sentence. it was just one word.

    a designer should …
a designer should strive to learn from anything, and be open to the ideas, creativity, and opinions of others, whether they be good or bad. you’re just shutting it out like a spoiled child just because you’ve ‘played thousands of video games’. you shouldn’t dismiss the indie crowd of doing absolutely nothing new, you couldn’t possibly know of every single indie title or concept that is out there. you may call yourself an amateur game designer, but you’re a pretentious to boot.

  22. ZombieLazerPandas Says:

    And all big video …
And all big video game companies are doing is making the same game over and over and just making a different title.I’d rather play something semi creative than the same game with a different title.
